Other Worlds
I recently finished reading City of Saints and Madmen: The Book of Ambergris, by Jeff Vandermeer. I took it with distrust from Kevin, but alas, I had nothing else to read. It turned out to be excellent. Fantasy with a touch of Borges, but more amenable (ok, he "stole" a couple of ideas from Ficciones but he redeems himself by the obvious reference). The book is rich, intrincate, morbid, hilarious, mysterious and imaginative, a puzzle. The Early History of Ambergris made me laugh out loud on the T. The first story on the book can be read here.
